Wyoming Area won every event on the track, including Usama Alansari’s sweep of the hurdles events, Monday to defeat visiting Northwest, 97-53, and complete an unbeaten Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 boys track and field championship season.

Alansari dominated the field in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.10 seconds and pulled out a close win in the 300 hurdles in 44.90.

Rocco Pizano and Vincenzo Scotto-Diluzio each won an individual event along with being part of the wins in the 400 and 1600 relays.

George Sharkey (3200), Mike Branley (1600), Jevani Sancho (100) and Dustin Reese (400) all won an individual event and ran on a winning relay.

Wyoming Area finished 7-0 in the division, followed by: Tunkhannock 6-1, Meyers 5-2, Lake-Lehman 4-3, Hanover Area 3-4, Holy Redeemer 2-5, Meyers 1-6, GAR 0-7.

Pittston Area

Anthony Thomas won three events Tuesday when visiting Pittston Area won its WVC Division 1 finale.

Thomas won the triple jump with 38-9, the 100-meter dash in 12.2 and the 200 in 25.3.

The final Division 1 standings were: Hazleton Area 7-0, Dallas 6-1, Crestwood 5-2, Wyoming Valley West 4-3, Pittston Area 3-4, Berwick 2-5, Coughlin 1-6, Nanticoke 0-7.

GIRLS

Northwest 95

Wyoming Area 55

Wyoming Area dropped its final WVC Division 2 meet despite two wins each by Aubriana Marranca and Madelyn Resciniti.

Marranca won the 1600- and 3200-meter runs. Resciniti won the shot put and discus.

The Lady Warriors finished in a three-way tie for third in the division. The final standings were: Holy Redeemer 7-0, Lake-Lehman 6-1, Hanover Area 4-3, Wyoming Area 4-3, Northwest 4-3, Tunkhannock 2-5, GAR 1-6, Meyers 0-7.

Pittston Area 93

Nanticoke 57

Giavanna Innamorati and Nicole Zambetti each won two individual events for Pittston Area in Tuesday’s regular-season finale.

Innamorati won both hurdles races.

Zambetti won the 1600 and 3200.

The Lady Patriots finished tied for second in WVC Division 2. The standings were: Dallas 7-0, Hazleton Area 5-2, Pittston Area 5-2, Berwick 4-3, Wyoming Valley West 3-4, Coughlin 2-5, Nanticoke 1-6, Crestwood 1-6.

James Cross Invitational

Pittston Area entered its field athletes in the James Cross Invitational at Solomon-Plains Junior High May 4.

The track athletes had taken part in the Jordan Relays two days earlier.

The Patriots finished 10th of 18 teams in both the boys and girls standings despite entering less than half the events.

Caeden Messner led the way, finishing second in the boys triple jump at 40-7 ½.

The top six in each event scored points.

David Behm, in the high jump, and Nick McGlynn, in the javelin, each finished fourth.

The Patriots had three of the top six in the triple jump with Anthony Thomas and Jacob Gregory placing fifth and sixth.

Pittston Area also had three of the top six in the girls discus, led by Amber Jenkins in third. Caroline Wesp and Leah Zambetti finished fifth and sixth.

Emma Coles and Zambetti were fourth and fifth in the javelin.

Libby Williams was fourth in the pole vault and Rhiannon Okuniewski was sixth in the long jump.
