Marc Anthony Minichello was part of a record-setting performance by the University of Pennsylvania track and field teams when he qualified to complete his freshman season at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Track and Field Championships.

The javelin thrower from Wyoming Area made it through the NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Fla. Friday.

Minichello finished eight out of 48 competitors who were going after 12 berths at nationals. Already the Ivy League champion in the event, he made it with a throw of 67.35 meters (220-11).

By the time Friday’s action was complete, Penn had eight national qualifiers for the first time in school history and it was still scheduled to have three individuals and a relay team compete Saturday.
