Taryn Ashby repeated her success as a javelin thrower at Villanova University.

The sophomore from Pittston Area won the Big East championship in the event for the second straight season and advanced to the NCAA East Preliminary Meet for the second straight year.

Ashby placed 35th out of 48 in the event where NCAA Division I Track and Field Championship qualifying was at stake. Her second attempt traveled 43.16 meters (141-7).

Earlier in the season, Ashby broke a 20-year-old school record with a throw of 48.03 meters (157-7).

Ashby was again an All-Big East selection. She was twice selected Big East Field Athlete of the Week.

WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Jillian Warabak, a Holy Cross graduate from Pittston, was a hurdler and sprinter for Lafayette College as a freshman.

Warabak finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles at the Patriot League Indoor Championships. She scored consistently in the 100 and 400 hurdles in the outdoor season and ran on the 1600 relay team in the Patriot League Outdoor Championships.

King’s College junior Tara Johnson finished third in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships.

The Pittston Area graduate was eighth in the 1500 and ran the anchor legs on the fifth-place 1600 relay team and seventh-place 3200 relay team.

Johnson won the 1500 meter title at the Golden Ram Invitational and posted her season-best time of 2:23.41 in the 800 at the same event. She won the 3000 steeplechase at two other invitationals.

WOMEN’S GOLF

Allie Craig played in every tournament for Division II Millersville University as a freshman.

The freshman from Pittston Area averaged 93.2 with a low round of 86 at the Brown Intercollegiate Invitational. She was 10th out of 20 players at the Ursinus Invitational.

SOFTBALL

Gwen Glatz was named Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year for her all-around play as a freshman pitcher/third baseman at Swarthmore College.

The Wyoming Area graduate was a force as a pitcher and hitter, leading the conference with 38 RBI during a 22-15 season.

Glatz was also a first-team, all-star as Swarthmore made the conference playoffs for the first time since 2010. Glatz was second in the conference in doubles (15), third in walks (19), fourth in on-base percentage (.445) and fifth in stolen bases, going 12-for-12. She also ranked in the top 10 in batting average (.357) and slugging percentage (.518).

As a pitcher, Glatz was fourth with a 2.26 earned run average and sixth in wins (nine).

Glatz finished 9-2, leading the team in wins despite making just seven starts. She completed four of those games. In 17 total pitching appearances, she gave up 83 hits and 15 walks while striking out 23 in 77 2/3 innings.

Mindina Lieback, a sophomore from Pittston Area, and Kristi Skok, a freshman from Wyoming Area, were both starting infielders at King’s.

Lieback made 36 starts and batted .317 with nine doubles, three triples and 26 RBI.

Skok played in all 37 games, starting all but one. She also hit .317 while producing 12 doubles, two home runs and 17 RBI.

King’s went 6-8 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom and 19-18 overall.

BASEBALL

Tyler Jackson shared the team lead with four saves and appeared in more than half the games in relief for a Penn State-Harrisburg team that went 33-15-1.

Jackson was 3-0 with a 5.26 ERA in 25 games. The sophomore from Pittston Area struck out 37 in 49 2/3 innings.

Cole Keating, a sophomore from Wyoming Area, was a pitcher at King’s this season after playing at Susquehanna University as a freshman.

Keating pitched three scoreless innings in two appearances. He was also listed on the roster as an outfielder.

King’s went 17-9, including 12-9 in the MAC Freedom.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

Bailey Jordan, a freshman from Pittston Area, started all 19 games on the attack at King’s College.

Jordan scored eight goals, including one in her collegiate debut, and assisted on three others.

King’s went 6-13, including 3-4 in the MAC Freedom.

MEN’S GOLF

Tyler McGarry, a redshirt junior from Pittston Area, averaged 76.19 in 16 rounds over five tournaments in his first season at Keiser University.

McGarry had played two years previously at Misericordia University.
