Wyoming Area is one of five Wyoming Valley Conference schools that are scheduled to have three baseball players in action Sunday afternoon when the seventh annual Field of Dreams is played at PNC Field in Moosic.

The WVC will take on the Lackawanna League in big school and small school games in the senior all-star doubleheader that is being presented by Lackawanna County, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and the Bill Howerton StrikeOut Cancer Foundation.

The big schools play first at 1:30 p.m., followed by the small schools at 4 p.m.

Wyoming Area has three players and Pittston Area two on the WVC big school team.

Shortstop Dan Wiedl, second baseman John Angelella and pitcher Toby Hallman represent the Warriors. Pitcher Hunter Ralston and right fielder Jimmie Dillon represent the Patriots.

The big school team is coached by Crestwood’s Sean Foley.

Holy Redeemer’s Chris Ritsick will coach the small school team along with Matt Skrepenak, who coached the last Meyers team this spring and will be the first Wilkes-Barre Area head coach.

The Lackawanna small school team includes Old Forge first baseman Hayden Jones and Tyler Mozeleski, a Holy Cross shortstop who lives in Yatesville. The team will be coached by J.J. Perri from Carbondale.

Sean Hughes from Riverside will coach the Lackawanna League big schools.

Admission is $5.

Softball game

Lackawanna County officials also announced the creation of the first Field of Dreams softball game to be played June 23 at 5:30 p.m. at The University of Scranton’s Magis Field.

The game, presented by Lackawanna County, the Lackawanna County Visitors Bureau and the University of Scranton, will feature strictly seniors from the Lackawanna League, split into big school and small school teams.

Old Forge will be well represented on the small school team. Pat Revello will coach the squad, which includes pitcher Corianne Holzman, shortstop Nina Zimmerman and pitcher Kary Gillette from his Lady Devils team.

Lauren Cawley, a centerfielder from Scranton Prep who is a resident of the Pittston Area School District, will be on the big school team. The team will be coached by Valley View’s E.J. Weston.
