Greater Pittston reached the midway point in the Wyoming Valley American Legion Baseball season in a tie for second place in the Senior League standings.

Mountain Post leads the league with an 8-1 record. Greater Pittston and Swoyersville were each 6-2 and tied for second place before Swoyersville won their head-to-head meeting Thursday to open the second half of the schedule.

Greater Pittston was scheduled to play again against Back Mountain Friday. It is back in action Monday against Tunkhannock in a game that has been moved to Greater Pittston’s home field in Hughestown.

Ty Federici got the win on the mound as Swoyersville edged Greater Pittston to take sole possession of second place Thursday night.

Jimmie Dillon’s outstanding catch in center field helped keep Greater Pittston close.

Nate Baranski threw a three-hit shutout for Swoyersville Monday to hand Greater Pittston its first loss of the season.

Ryan Petrucci, Dylan Melberger and Derek Cunius had the Greater Pittston hits.

Ryan Petrucci and Chase Yochem scored three runs each June 23 when Greater Pittston improved to 6-0 to start the season.

Hunter Ralston threw a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts to get the win.

Chase Yochem had two hits and Jimmie Dillon scored twice.

Greater Pittston scored twice in the bottom of the sixth and Matt Sorick pitched four innings of relief Wednesday to pick up the second win in as many days.

Matt Cardinale tripled and Josh Baiera scored twice.

Greater Pittston scored six times in the fourth inning and used five pitches to win Tuesday’s game.

Zach Mascelli, Chase Yochem, Dylan Melberger, Alex McAndrew and Cole Cherkas combined to handle the pitching.

Ryan Petrucci had two hits.

Jimmie Dillon had three hits for Greater Pittston in the June 11 victory.

Cole Cherkas was the winning pitcher with relief help from Zach Mascelli.

Derek Cunius, Alex McAndrew and Matt Cardinale scored twice each.

Cameron Kohut had a double and single in the June 9 season opener.

Chase Yochem and Ryan Petrucci each scored twice.

Toby Hallman pitched five innings in the win. Dylan Melberger finished up.

Youth Legion

Greater Pittston won three out of four games in the past week and is 7-5 for fourth place in the eight-team league.

Sam Supey threw a three-hitter and also provided a hit and two runs to the offense in the opener.

Max Rosen had two hits and two RBI. Evan Melberger drove in two runs while Brayden Powers had two hits.

Joe Ranieli went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Aaron Yelland threw four scoreless innings in the second game.

Brayden Powers, who drove in three runs, and Owen Hyzinski, who drove in two, each had two hits.

Greater Pittston made it three straight wins with a 5-1 victory over Mountain Post Tuesday.

Adam Felinski allowed just an unearned run on three hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Joe Ranieli was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Steve Sciandra had a hit, walk and RBI.

Swoyersville shut out Greater Pittston, 14-0, in five innings Thursday.

It has been a season of streaks for Greater Pittston, which lost three straight prior to the three-game winning streak.

Greater Pittston won four straight after losing the season opener, 7-3, to Mountain Post June 1.

Evan Melberger was 2-for-3 in the loss while Jason Wiedl went 1-for-1 with three walks in the opener.

Greater Pittston defeated Stripes & Strikes, 11-1, in six innings June 3.

Hunter Lawall allowed just one hit while striking out four in 5 2/3 innings. He also had a single, double, two runs and two RBI.

Wiedl had two hits and two RBI.

Sam Supey threw four hitless innings June 5 when Greater Pittston shut out Northwest, 14-0, in five innings.

Supey struck out five and went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Evan Melburger was 2-for-2 with a walk, two runs and two RBI.

Adam Felinski struck out seven in a complete game during an 8-2 victory over Back Mountain June 8.

Melberger had two hits. Andrew Skutack was 1-for-1 with a sacrifice fly and two RBI. Tyler Wassel had two hits.

Winning pitcher Max Rosen was 2-for-2 with an RBI in a 12-0 shutout of Tunkhannock.

Wiedl was 2-for-2 with a walk while Joe Ranieli was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Andrew Skutack scored twice.

First-place Swoyersville defeated Greater Pittston, 10-4 and 6-1, June 14 and 16.

Andrew Skutack had two hits and drove in a run in the first meeting.

Owen Hyzinski was 1-for-1 with two walks and the only run scored in the most recent game. Max Rosen had a hit and drove in the run.

Stripes & Strikes defeated Greater Pittston, 15-3, June 21 despite a big game from Owen Hyzinski.

Hyzinski was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Sam Supey added two hits.
