Swoyersville wound up repeating as Region 5 Senior American Legion Baseball champion and Tri-Boro was the first team knocked out of the eight-team, double-elimination tournament.
Just 3 ½ innings into the tournament at the Pittston Area Primary Center in Hughestown, however, the teams were headed in distinctly different directions.
Tri-Boro jumped to a 7-0 lead on Swoyersville at that point in the July 19 opening-round game.
Swoyersville scored all of its runs in the bottom of the fourth, with the help of a bases-loaded triple by Tyler O’Kane, then held on for a 9-8 victory.
