Pittston Area’s Nick Scavo shot an 82 Monday at Fox Hill Country Club to finish tied for sixth in Class 3A boys in the Wyoming Valley Conference qualifier and advance to the District 2 Individual Golf Championships.
Scavo was the only Greater Pittston golfer to make the cut and reach the district event, which will also be held at Fox Hill Monday, beginning at 9 a.m.
Logan Paczewski from Dallas was the Class 3A boys medalist with the day’s only under-par round, a 70.
Scavo tied with two other players for the sixth spot.
The top 16 players made it to the district tournament.
Frank Nocito from Pittston Area shot an 88 to finish tied for 19th, two shots out of a playoff for that final spot.
Five Patriots shot 91 or better.
Zach Valeski and Tyler Wassel had 90s and Derek Cunius 91.
Wyoming Area was unable to get a player through in Class 2A boys where 14 players qualified by shooting 84 or better, led by Lake-Lehman’s Bobby Lugiano with a 78.
Chase Yochem had the best score for the Warriors with an 87.
Cole Coolbaugh and Matt Sorick each shot 90. J.T. Gober finished with a 97.
Pittston Area had two players try to qualify in Class 3A girls where a 100 or better was needed to advance. Jordyn Ruane shot a 105 and Liz Herron had a 107.
During Monday’s District 2 tournament, there are six Class 2A boys, four Class 3A boys, three Class 2A girls and two Class 3A girls berths available for the PIAA East Regionals. All regional qualifiers will also receive district medals.
Fox Hill was also the site of the WVC team qualifier for the District 2 championships. Dallas (3A) and Wyoming Seminary (2A) won those titles.
Wyoming Seminary needed the playoff after finishing in a tie for first place in WVC Division 3.
Final standings for the division were: Wyoming Seminary 10-2, Holy Redeemer 10-2, Lake-Lehman 9-3, Hanover Area 5-7, Wyoming Area 4-8, MMI Prep 4-8, Berwick 0-12.
