Hezekiah Deitz ran for two touchdowns, Michael DiGregorio also accounted for two scores and Old Forge limited Montrose to two rushing yards Friday night as the Blue Devils routed the host Meteors, 57-0, to repeat as Lackawanna Football Conference Division 4 champions.
Old Forge, which had already clinched at least a tie for first place, won the title outright by finishing the regular season 3-0 in the division and 8-1 overall. The Blue Devils will host the District 2 championship game Friday night against either Lackawanna Trail or Northwest, pending the final calculation of District 2 playoff ratings.
The Blue Devils left no doubt about the top spot in the division or playoff standings.
They opened leads of 21-0 after one quarter and 50-0 at halftime.
When it was done, Old Forge had outscored nine regular-season opponents by a total of 331-66 and lost only to LFC Division 3 co-champion Dunmore on a last-second field goal.
Defense got the scoring started Friday night, just 1:06 into the game.
DiGregorio returned an interception for a touchdown and 6-0 lead.
Colin Holman ran 11 yards and Tyler Carey caught a 37-yard pass from DiGregorio for the other first-quarter touchdowns.
Old Forge, which scored two touchdowns in the game’s first 2:48, added three more scoring plays in the first 2:10 of the second quarter.
Deitz ran 8 yards for a score.
After a bad Montrose punt snap led to a safety, Prince Scurry returned the free kick 42 yards for a touchdown.
Old Forge added two more touchdowns in the last 3:08 of the half on a 5-yard run by Kevin Pepsin and a 6-yarder by Deitz.
The entire second half was played under the Mercy Rule.
Ted Chuta ran 13 yards for a touchdown to complete the scoring with 7:58 left in the third quarter.
Old Forge held Montrose to 10-for-36 passing.
Tyler Carey caught three passes for 99 yards for the Blue Devils.
