Alexis Lewis waited a long time for her senior season of college basketball to arrive.
Lewis showed she was ready for the start.
The Holy Redeemer graduate and Pittston resident needed only five seconds before hitting a 3-pointer in Wednesday’s exhibition opener at Seton Hall where she will finish her career after sitting out the 2018-19 season under National Collegiate Athletic Association transfer rules.
Lewis hit four 3-pointers in the first half 6:25 of a 98-54 victory over Division II Jefferson University.
The 5-foot-10 senior guard played her first three college seasons at Iona College where she was a three-time All-MAAC selection. She was the co-Sixth Player of the Year as a freshman, a first-team all-star as a sophomore and a third-teamer as a junior.
In her sophomore season at Iona in 2016-17, Lewis averaged 15.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals while hitting 37.7 percent of her 3-point attempts. She led Iona in points (14.1), rebounds (8.4) and steals (2.0) as a junior.
“We are extremely excited to add a player of Alexis Lewis’ caliber to our program,” Anthony Bozzella said in a story on the school’s website. “Lexi is a gifted scorer with deep shooting range as well as an explosive rebounder and defender. We have no doubts that her skill set will translate to great success in the Big East as she concludes what has already been a tremendous career.”
Seton Hall went 15-16 last season when it was 7-11 in the Big East. The Pirates open the regular season Wednesday at home against Sacred Heart.
Lewis, who grabbed four rebounds, finished 4-for-5 with 14 points in 20 minutes against Jefferson. Her fourth 3-pointer made it 19-9 and Seton Hall ran out to a 27-9 lead in a game in which it never trailed.
The team hit 11 times f
rom 3-point range while taking a 55-25 halftime lead.
