PITTSTON TWP. — Township supervisors and the Recreation Board sponsored a Children’s Easter Party on April 6 that kicked off the Easter season with food, games and colorful decorations.

As supervisor Dave Slezak, participating for his second year, looked out into the crowd of over a hundred children and their parents he said, “Look at that. It’s all about the kids. It’s unreal how much fun they are having.”

And the event did indeed bring joy to its young participants who went from eating a bit of lunch to getting their faces painted to meeting the Easter Bunny after his arrival and, finally, to trying to find the perfect egg during an outside egg hunt.

Tammy Galli, treasurer of the rec board, said organizers had been preparing for the event for weeks, giving special attention to every detail from bright balloons to an inflatable bunny that seemed to mesmerize the youngest of participants.

“My daughter always won the hula hoop contest,” she aid, smiling.

Nicole Dauchert, a member of the recreation board, arrived early with her daughter Gisella, 14, to set up for the party, then welcomed youngsters as they came through the door.

John Argenta, originally from Pittston Township and now from Forty Fort, said he brings his children Ava, 8, and Anthony, 5, to the event every year.

Argena said Pittston Township will forever be his hometown, crediting the supervisors and recreation board with providing several events throughout the year geared to children.

Anthony Argenta, said he liked every part of the event, but especially seemed to enjoy getting his face painted as a bunny.

In its over 20-year history, the party has remained much the same, but the Easter egg hunt has been added in the last few years.

To Donny Taroli, rec board president, the Easter season wouldn’t be the same without the chance to bring joy to the township’s youngsters.

In addition to multiple activities, each youngster got a chocolate Easter bunny and a chance to participate in several drawings for additional candy and gifts.
