EXETER — At a special meeting Tuesday the Wyoming Area School Board appointed Eric Speece as Secondary Center Principal at a salary of $88,000, replacing Jon William Pollard, who was appointed superintendent at a May 5 meeting. But the board also took action on Pollard’s position, voting to give him a five-year contract at a starting salary of $119,000.
Board Member Phillip Campenni, who was absent at the May meeting, pointed out that according to those minutes Pollard had been appointed for a three-year term, with Gerald Stofko, Paul Porfirio and board President Michael Supey voting no. Board Member Toni Valenti said the board had discussed extending the contract to five years and that Campenni was present for that conversation.
The board unanimously approved the appointment of Speece, and the retroactive appointment of Pollard as Acting Superintendent beginning June 7. But the vote to give Pollard a five-year contract split 5-4, with Campenni, Stofko, Porfirio and Supey voting against.
