Local students receive pins
DALLAS TWP. — Several Misericordia University students were recently recognized for completing Part-Time Evening Bachelor of Science Degrees within the nursing program, and the RN to BSN Expressway Program.
The following students received their pins at a ceremony: Karen Szwast, Exeter; Stacy Yarina, Avoca; Kristal Smith, Falls; Suzanne Hernandez, Duryea; and Megan Bartuska, Dupont.
Smith received the Academic Excellence Award that is conferred to a BSN student who has attained the highest academic standing overall. The Kaplan Readiness Award was presented to Szwast. The award is given to the student who has attained the highest scores on the comprehensive National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) review test.
Pellegrini receives white coat
DALLAS TWP. — Maura Pellegrini, Pittston Township, in the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies Program at Misericordia University, received her long white coats at a special completion ceremony held recently.
At the ceremony, the class of 17 students received their second white coat, a longer coat than the one they received the previous year signifying program completion. In addition, the students took the Physician Assistant Professional Oath, reminding them to always put the health, safety and privacy of their patients first and to be professional at all times.

A boy was born to Marina Thomas and Ryan Matalonis, Pittston, on Aug. 12.
A girl was born to Angela and Robert Bejeski, Duryea, on Aug. 16.
A girl was born to Jessica Smalley and Ryan Williams, Wyoming, on Aug. 18.
