Morgan Janeski scored 15 of her 23 points while Wyoming Area was pulling away in the second half for a 49-30, home-court victory over Wyoming Valley West in a non-league girls basketball game Tuesday night.

Until also losing a night earlier, Wyoming Valley West had shared the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 lead and was sitting in second in the District 2-4 Class 6A Subregional playoff seeding race.

The Lady Warriors, who entered the weekend third in the District 2 Class 4A seeding race, decisively handled their bigger opponent.

Anna Wisnewski hit two 3-pointers and scored eight of her 14 points while Janeski added four points during the third quarter.

The Lady Warriors opened the second half with a 21-19 lead, but scored the first four points and the last six of the third quarter to build a 33-23 advantage.

Janeski expanded that lead with 11 points in the fourth quarter when she was 7-for-10 from the line.

Wisnewski also grabbed six rebounds while Janeski had five.

Wyoming Area first jumped in front with eight straight points in the first quarter for an 8-3 lead. It opened a 20-11 advantage with the first six points of the second quarter before Wyoming Valley West closed the half on an 8-1 run.

Thalia Irizarry led the Lady Spartans with nine points.

Lake-Lehman 39, Wyoming Area 29

Lake-Lehman went on runs to begin the second and third quarters Thursday night on the way to beating visiting Wyoming Area in the WVC Division 2 game.

The Lady Knights, who are even in the loss column and a half-game behind Holy Redeemer, denied the Lady Warriors their shot at turning the division into a three-team race.

Instead, Wyoming Area dropped to fourth in the division at 5-3. The Lady Warriors are 12-6 overall.

Anna Wisnewski scored all seven of her points in the first quarter to keep Wyoming Area even at 12-12.

Lake-Lehman then scored the first seven points for a 19-12 lead midway through the second quarter.

When the Lady Knights opened the third quarter with an 8-2 run, they had a 32-19 lead with 3:24 left in the third quarter.

Lia Keefe led Lake-Lehman with 12 points. She scored 10 during the second and third quarters.

Morgan Janeski matched Wisnewski’s seven points and led Wyoming Area with seven rebounds.

Olivia Rome added five rebounds for the Lady Warriors.

Wyoming Area held Lake-Lehman without a field goal in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to make the game close.
