PITTSTON TWP. — A small piece of equipment caused a big headache for township residents on Wednesday.

Thanks to a broken piece of equipment, a train was stopped in the middle of its tracks on Oak Street for a few hours, causing traffic delays on Bryden and Norman streets and eventually on Oak Street.

According to a representative from Norfolk Southern Railway a “knuckle” broke off two of the connecting train cars, which caused them to pull apart and the brakes to engage.

The workers were able to move the train to remove the broken knuckle off the tracks and restarted the front portion of the train to continue on the tracks.

A separate engine from Taylor eventually connected with the back portion of the train and pushed it toward its destination.

As the train was being pushed, traffic on Bryden and Norman streets cleared. The train stopped and started several times, which caused traffic to be delayed for a short period on Oak Street.

According to the Norfolk Southern Railway representative, the train was taken to Yatesville where it was repaired.
