Two-time Major League Baseball all-star and Jenkins Twp. resident Andy Ashby will join two other instructors for a free coaches clinic presented by the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Feb. 11 at PNC Field.

All three instructors at the clinic have ties for northeastern Pennsylvania. Ashby will be joined by Russ Canzler and Gary Ruby.

Ashby, who became a part owner of the RailRiders in the fall, spent 14 seasons in the Major Leagues with the Philadelphia Phillies, Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers. He pitched for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons, the International League predecessor to the Yankees and RailRiders, during his minor league career.

Ashby played for the Red Barons in 1991 and 1992 on his way to the Phillies. He made the MLB All-Star Game as a Padre in 1998 and 1999. He went 17-9 with five complete games and a 3.34 earned run average in 1998 when he went on to make four postseason starts, including one in a World Series loss to the New York Yankees.
