Musto receives scholarship

SCRANTON — Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine announces the first recipient of the Jennifer A. Sidari, MD ’13 Memorial Scholarship is Christopher Musto, Pittston.

A first-year medical student, Musto volunteers at the Pittston Care and Concern Clinic, the same clinic where Dr. Sidari also spent much of her time.

Musto said his desire is to practice medicine among his own neighbors in northeastern Pennsylvania and to learn from physicians who share that commitment.

Blaskiewicz helps organize poetry auction

DALLAS — Misericordia University student Mary Pat Blaskiewicz, of West Pittston, is helping to organize the university’s fourth annual poetry benefit auction, entitled “The Wonder of Words.” The auction is scheduled to run from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the university’s Mary Kintz Bevevino Library. The event was organized by the university’s Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society.

To participate, poets were asked to donate $.05 per word; if they find a piece to be moving, attendees are asked to match the poet’s donation. All proceeds will be used to purchase computer tablets for reading support classrooms at Wilkes-Barre Area School District.

Bonita dances for cancer

NEWARK, DE — Tyler Bonita, of West Pittston, joined the fight against childhood cancer as a dancer with UDance at the University of Delaware.

UDance is the university’s largest student-run philanthropy benefiting the Wilmington, Delaware based Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation.

Happy birthday

Max Freed, of Pottsville, celebrated his 11th birthday on April 7. His mother is the former Carol Ann English, of Pittston Township. Max has a sister, Rachel, who is 16 years old. A family birthday party will be celebrated on Easter Sunday.
