Pittston Area opens the second half of its football season Friday, Sept. 28 in a non-league game at West Scranton that could be important to District 2 Class 4A playoff race.

Both teams went into Saturday with 2-2 records.

The Patriots and Invaders, who play games at Scranton Memorial Stadium, are among 13 teams battling for eight spots in the district playoff tournament. The top four of those teams will earn the home-field advantage when the playoffs open with a quarterfinal round.

Pittston Area entered this weekend in fourth place and West Scranton was fifth in the new playoff ratings system that District 2 is using this season.

West Scranton was scheduled to face Scranton Prep Saturday afternoon.
