Brandon Matthews finished his first full season on the Web.com Tour as the tour’s second-longest drive, but just short of where he needed to be on the money list to make the season-ending playoffs.

Matthews averaged 333.7 yards per drive on the tour.

The top 75 Web.com Tour money-winners advanced to the playoffs, leading up to the Tour Championship, which is being completed this weekend.

Matthews, a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state champion while playing at Pittston Area, made 13 of 21 cuts on the season, including two of the last three.

In his final event of the event, Aug. 16-19, Matthews finished tied for 53th at the WinCo Foods Portland Open with a 3-under-par, 281. Two weeks earlier, he matched his fourth-best effort of the season by tying for 27th at the KC Golf Classic.

Matthews was ninth on the tour with 4.33 birdies per round. He earned $65,220 with the help of two Top 10 and three Top 25 finishes.

The 82th-place finish qualified Matthews for conditional status on next year’s tour, getting him entry into many events. It also advanced it to the final stage of the Web.com Tour Qualifying School where he can improve his status and earn guaranteed entry into more events on the 2019 tour.

Matthews, a 24-year-old from Dupont, moved from Pittston Area to a successful career at Temple University before turning pro.

The Web.com Tour is the second-highest North American professional tour behind the Professional Golfers Association Tour, with which it is affiliated.
