Dorsey earns position with Zebra Communications

WILKES-BARRE — Wilkes University student Parker Dorsey of Pittston, earned the position of vice president of web development with Zebra Communications. Zebra Communications is a student-run full-service public relations agency. Dorsey is a communication studies major.

Zebra Communications takes on 12-15 client-partners each semester, including not-for-profit organizations, government agencies, small businesses, campus initiatives, and regional grant-funded projects. Having “real clients” means Zebra students gain valuable hands-on experience while studying in our three advanced public relations classes.

Student teams have won awards including the John Luciano Regionalism Award for a booklet entitled Stay! Work and Play in NEPA.

Two earn leadership roles at Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE — Parker Dorsey, of Pittston, and Nicholas Filipek, of West Wyoming, are among 24 Wilkes University students who earned leadership positions with WilkesNow. WilkesNow is a student-run television program which educates young media professionals and provides services to the local community on cable channel 97 for Service Electric Cable, Wilkes-Barre, and one closed-circuit channel.

Two earn positions at Wilkes newspaper

WILKES-BARRE — Eleven Wilkes University students earned leadership positions at The Beacon. The Beacon is the student-run newspaper, advised by a full-time faculty member of the communication studies department.

Nicholas Filipek, of West Wyoming, earned the position of managing editor at The Beacon, the student-run newspaper at Wilkes University.

Parker Dorsey, of Pittston, earned the position of opinion assistant editor at The Beacon, the student-run newspaper at Wilkes University.

Dorsey named to Student Advisory Council

WILKES-BARRE — Parker Dorsey, of Pittston, along with 17 other Wilkes University students, was appointed to the President’s Student Advisory Council for the current academic year.

President Patrick F. Leahy established the President’s Student Advisory Council in spring 2018 as a way to deepen his connection with Wilkes University students. The group includes of sophomores, juniors, and seniors who represent a wide variety of academic majors and co-curricular interests.

Local students attend business forum

WILKES-BARRE — Twelve local residents and King’s College students were recently selected to attend the college’s 14th annual McGowan Business Forum.

Held in Philadelphia, the Forum allowed students to network with King’s alumni and other professionals. It was followed by a dinner and the presentation of the fifth annual Father James Lackenmier, C.S.C., Award for Achievement and Leadership.

The students are George Casey, Pittston; Joshua Frankevich, Wyoming; Daniel Gambini, Pittston; Rachel Healey, Wyoming; Sierra Hembury, Pittston; Shelby Hoffman, Dupont; Matthew Klein, Duryea; Brandon Lukachko, Pittston Township; Eann McCloe, Jenkins Township; Alexander Rowan, Pittston; Michael Soricelli, Exeter, and Krista Vogue, Pittston Township.

Two inducted into honor society

WILKES-BARRE — Nicholas Filipek, of West Wyoming, and Jordan Fritz, of Avoca, were among eight Wilkes University students were inducted into Lambda Pi Eta, the communication studies honor society of the National Communication Association.

In order to become a member, students must complete 60 semester credit-hours, obtain a minimum overall cumulative grade point average of 3.0, complete the equivalent of 12 semester credit-hours in communication studies core curriculum and have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 for all communication studies courses.

Two named to dean’s list

PHILADELPHIA — Kelly Mitchell, of Pittston, and Brittany Souryavong, of Duryea, have been named to the summer 2018 dean’s list at University of the Sciences. Selection for this award is based on completing and passing all assigned courses with no grade below a “C” and attaining an academic average of at least 3.4 for courses taken in the summer of 2018.
