Madelyn Keating ran a career-best time and was part of the scoring lineup Aug. 30 when Mississippi State opened its women’s cross country season with a first-place finish at the Twilight Cross Country Classic in Memphis, Tenn.

Keating was 19th in the 112-runner field. The junior from Wyoming Area, who is also part of the indoor and outdoor track and field teams at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I school, finished with a time of 18:22.95 over the 3.1-mile course.

Mississippi State followed up that effort by improving from eighth a year ago to second at Friday’s Southern Showcase in Huntsville, Ala.
