Pittston Area’s Isabella Dessoye finished the 2.75-mile McDade Park course in 18:01.1 Sept. 6 to win the individual title in the varsity girls race at the 31st annual Lackawanna County Commissioners Cross Country Invitational.
Dessoye finished 20.4 seconds in front of Valley View’s Sadie Loftus.
Olivea Scalese from Pittston Area was 11th in the 94-runner field in 19:38.6.
The girls race had nine full teams plus individual runners from six other schools.
Kierstyn Orlandini from Wyoming Area, one of the schools to enter individuals, was 30th.
Valley View won the team title 64-72 over Elk Lake.
Pittston Area was sixth of nine teams with a score of 117.
The Pittston Area boys fared better as a team, placing fourth out of 13 varsity teams.
Riverside won with a score of 51.
Elk Lake edged Wallenpaupack 61-62 for second.
Pittston Area posted a score of 129, a dozen points better than fifth-place Valley View.
Pittston Area’s Caden Boettger placed 11th out of 136 runners in 15:43.3.
James Radle, Brady Tucker and Jakob Mead finished with six-tenths of a second of each other in 19th through 21st place.
Jameson Dessoye was fourth of 127 boys and Alexis Noone was sixth of 135 girls to lead the Pittston Area junior high teams.
WVC girls cluster meet
Pittston Area took advantage of its home course to post its second straight sweep of a Wyoming Valley Conference cluster meet.
Bella Dessoye finished first in the seven-team meet.
The Lady Patriots beat the three teams they were scored against and lead all WVC teams with a 6-0 record. They defeated Tunkhannock (20-40), Lake-Lehman (22-37) and Dallas (19-38).
Wyoming Area swept the same three teams and leads Division 2 with a 5-1 record with the only loss coming to Pittston Area. The Lady Patriots topped Tunkhannock (20-38), Lake-Lehman (26-31) and Dallas (19-38).
Dessoye finished in 20:53.
Bella Costa led Wyoming Area, taking fourth in 21:32.
Pittston Area’s Olivea Scalese and Michaela Walsh were seventh and 10th and Wyoming Area’s Sofia Menta was 10th.
WVC boys cluster
Host Pittston Area defeated Tunkhannock (15-47), Lake-Lehman (25-33) and Dallas (19-43) Wednesday to improve to 6-0, best in the WVC.
Lake-Lehman’s Stephen Martin finished first in 17:41 and Pittston Area’s Caden Boettger finished 17 seconds later.
Cash Radle, Brady Tucker and Albert Schardien took seventh, eighth and ninth in the seven-team cluster meet for the Patriot.
Braydon Gaylord led Wyoming Area, taking 26th.
The Warriors lost to Tunkhannock (21-37), Lake-Lehman (15-45) and Dallas (25-31). They are 0-6 on the season.
