Lucia Campenni scored both goals as Wyoming Area opened defense of its Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 field hockey title with a 2-0 victory over Lake-Lehman at Atlas Field.

The game was a rematch of Wyoming Area’s overtime victory in last season’s District 2 Class A championship game.

Nina Belza assisted Campenni on an extended penalty corner with time expired for the first half.

Campenni scored again in the fourth quarter.

Wyoming Area led in shots 12-4 and penalty corners 11-6.

Pittston Area 9, Hanover Area 0

Lola Serino scored three goals and assisted on two Thursday when Pittston Area pounded host Hanover Area in a WVC Division 2 game.

The Pittston Area defense did not yield a shot or penalty corner for the second time in as many games in the week.

Addyson Kelly had two goals and an assist while Giuliana Latoa had a goal and two assists. Milania Widdick and Jenna Zaladonis each had a goal and an assist. Olivia Miller also scored.

The Lady Patriots are 3-2 in Division 2 and 3-4 overall.

Wyoming Area 5, Wyoming Seminary 0

Claudia Rehill scored goals 1:32 apart early in the third quarter Wednesday to lead Wyoming Area to the WVC Division 1 victory at Klassner Field.

Wyoming Area, which led just 1-0 at halftime, improved to 2-0 in the division and 5-1 overall. The Lady Warriors share first place with Lackawanna Trail, which is unbeaten 8overall.

Talia Pizano scored the first goal and had an assist.

Lucia Campenni and Shannon Kearns also scored and Ella Campenni had an assist.

Pittston Area 5, Berwick 0

Milania Widdick, who had an assist in the first quarter, scored two of the three fourth-quarter goals Pittston Area used to break away from visiting Berwick Tuesday.

Lola Serino had a goal and an assist.

Jenna Zaladonis scored in the first quarter and Addyson Kelly opened the fourth-quarter scoring.

Grace Schardien had an assist.

GIRLS SOCCER

Wilkes-Barre Area 6, Pittston Area 0

Addison Corchado scored four goals and assisted on one as Wilkes-Barre Area rolled over visiting Pittston Area in Thursday’s WVC Division 1 game.

The Wolfpack handed the Lady Patriots their third straight shutout loss Thursday.

Pittston Area fell to 0-3 in WVC Division 1 and 1-6 overall.

Wyoming Area 10, Wyoming Seminary 2

Ava Musinski scored five goals and assisted on two Tuesday to lead the first-place Lady Warriors to the WVC Division 2 victory at Wyoming Seminary.

Wyoming Area remained unbeaten through three division and seven overall games.

Alana Zdaniewicz had two goals and an assist while Kinley Park and Jailynn Park each had a goal and an assist.

Wyoming Area piled up 34 shots on goal and got the scoring started just 3:32 in when Ella Yankovich connected unassisted.

The Lady Warriors are a half-game in front of Lake-Lehman (2-0).

Wyoming Area 5, Nanticoke 1

Jules Potter scored two goals and assisted on one Sept. 6 to lead Wyoming Area to the victory at Nanticoke.

Teagan Meier had a goal and two assists while Ava Musinski had a goal and an assist.

Sofia Menta also scored.

Kinley Park and Ella Yankovich also had assists.

BOYS SOCCER

Wyoming Area 4, MMI Prep 2

Wyoming Area picked up its first WVC Division 2 victory Thursday by defeating MMI Prep at Tenth Street Field.

The Warriors are 1-3 in the division and 2-4 overall.

Wilkes-Barre Area 1, Pittston Area 0

Johnny Mendola scored the game’s only goal in the second half to lift host Wilkes-Barre Area to the WVC Division 1 victory Thursday.

Jackson Duddek made seven saves for Pittston Area, which is 2-1 in the division and 5-2 overall.

Pittston Area 3, Lakeland 2

Caeleb Shea, Sadiki Murindabangabo and Thomas Capitano scored for Pittston Area in Wednesday’s non-league win at Lakeland.

Aidan Egan assisted two of the goals.

Berwick 3, Wyoming Area 2

Berwick turned back visiting Wyoming Area Monday in a WVC Division 2 game.

Pittston Area 3, Hazleton Area 0

Cole Baldwin, Caeleb Shea and Gael Idolwa scored for Pittston Area in the Sept. 6 WVC Division 1 game against visiting Hazleton Area.

Baldwin scored the only goal of the first half on a penalty kick, then assisted Idolwa’s insurance goal with 3:40 left.

Shea scored unassisted.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Nanticoke 3, Pittston Area 0

Amiah Ceruti had 27 assists, 13 service points and seven kills to lead the Trojans to the sweep of visiting Pittston Area in a WVC match Thursday.

The set scores were 25-17, 25-19, 25-13.

The Lady Patriots are 1-2 in the WVC and 2-3 overall.

Hazleton Area 3, Pittston Area 0

Visiting Hazleton Area swept Tuesday’s WVC match.

Lake-Lehman 3, Wyoming Area 0

Alexandra Patla had 10 kills to lead the Black Knights offense in a sweep of visiting Wyoming Area Monday.

Set scores were 25-18, 25-17 and 25-14.

Wyoming Area is 0-2 in the WVC and 1-2 overall.
