An oversight in where its champion fits into this year’s Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 3A football bracket led to an error by District 2 in the information it originally released regarding playoffs.

The discrepancy was discovered last weekend and District 2 announced that its Class 3A football playoff field would have to be just four teams and two rounds, rather than the eight teams and three rounds that were originally expected.

Wyoming Area, at 8-1, is not impacted by the change. The Warriors go into the final week second to Berwick (9-0) in the power ratings race for seeding.

Defending champion Scranton Prep or Hanover Area, both 5-4, are the most likely opponents in the first round of district play.

They are third and fourth with Mid Valley (4-5), Lake-Lehman (4-5) and Carbondale (5-4) all close behind going into the final game.

Pittston Area (8-1) currently leads Abington Heights (7-2) in the race for the top seed in District 2 Class 5A.

If the Patriots hold that spot, they can host both semifinals and finals and avoid a tough quarterfinal matchup. The top seed gets to open with either Wyoming Valley West (1-8) or Wallenpaupack.
