Wyoming Area 4, Lake-Lehman 2

PLAINS TWP. — Wyoming Area has been on the cusp for more than 10 years, always putting a quality product on the field yet unable to pass either Lake-Lehman or Holy Redeemer for a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 championship.

That changed Oct. 20 when the Lady Warriors used three second-half goals to get past Lake-Lehman in a playoff for the divisional title at Wilkes-Barre Area High School.

Ava Musinski scored two goals, including the go-ahead goal midway through the second half to help Wyoming Area break the time after the teams both went 9-1, splitting with each other.

Musinski also assisted Ella Yankovich with a goal with about six minutes left that essentially sealed the first Wyoming Area division title since 2012.

“The last couple of years we’ve been very competitive,” Wyoming Area coach Chad Kranson said. “Obviously, with Lehman it’s a battle every time. I’m just really glad for the kids. I’ve told the kids since day one that hard work pays off.”

The Lady Warriors shot first, but lost their advantage when Adriana Wallace stopped their second attempt.
