The Pittston Area girls 400-yard freestyle relay team of Daniella Bermuedez, Molly Fetchko, Bella Petrucci and Cassie Hintze finished fifth March 4 to highlight the second and final day of competition in the District 2 Swimming Championships at Wilkes-Barre Area High School.

Bermuedez and Hintze also had a ninth-place finish on the final day to help Pittston Area finish seventh out of 12 teams in the District 2-4 Class 3A Subregional girls competition.

District 4’s Williamsport finished first with 325 points. Delaware Valley was second in the subregional and recognized as the District 2 champion with 213 points.

Pittston Area had 73 points.

Bermuedez was ninth in the 100 backstroke and Hintze in the 500 freestyle.

CLASS 2A GIRLS

Ameriana Walker anchored the seventh-place Wyoming Area 400 freestyle relay team and placed 12th in the 100 backstroke on the second day of competition in District 2 Class 2A girls.

Ava Menditto, Sofia Sabatini and Maddie Johnson joined Walker on the relay team.

Wyoming Area finished eighth out of 15 in the team standings with 45 points.

Dallas beat out Scranton Prep, 263-238½, for the title.

CLASS 2A BOYS

Wyoming Area’s Tommy Lynch finished 10th in the 100 breaststroke in the District 2 Class 2A boys portion of the meet.

Pittston Area finished 13th out of 15 with 14 points and Wyoming Area was 14th with 13 points.

Dallas finished first by a 282-193 margin over second-place Tunkhannock.

The Pittston Area and Wyoming Area teams finished ninth and 10th in the closing 400 freestyle relay.

Ryan Hintze, Jack Grzech, Frank Garcia and Josiah Lyons made up the Pittston Area team while Benjamin Canfield, Giovanni Mansi, Jonathen Cortez and Lynch formed the Wyoming Area team.
