Pittston defeated host Hanover, 10-2, Friday to reach Wednesday’s championship game of the District 16 Major Little League Softball tournament.
The semifinal result avenged a 6-2 road loss in the June 17 tournament opener.
Pittston defeated visiting Plains, 8-2, Monday, then lost Wednesday at home against Mountain Top, 5-2, to finish 1-2 in the round-robin portion of the tournament.
Friday’s other semifinal was rained out and pushed back to Sunday at noon.
Pittston will play the winner of the game that sends fourth-seeded Plains to top-seeded Mountain Top, which is 3-0.
The District 16 championship game is the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday at the Ashley Softball Complex.
District 31 Major Softball
Northwest defeated Greater Wyoming Area, 17-12, in Friday’s semifinal to advance to Wednesday’s championship game against Back Mountain.
Aliya Gallagher had two hits for GWA.
GWA went 0-3 overall in the tournament, falling 15-0 to Back Mountain in three innings Monday and 21-8 to Northwest in four innings Wednesday.
Janae Fattorusso drove in two runs for GWA in Wednesday’s loss.
Back Mountain’s Lacey Youngblood struck out all nine batters in a three-inning perfect game Monday.
