EXETER – One day after Wyoming Area halted Crestwood’s Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 golf winning streak, Pittston Area ended Wyoming Area’s team playoff hopes.
The front nine at Fox Hill Country Club was the site of exciting finishes on consecutive days.
Wyoming Area edged Crestwood, 162-163, Tuesday to snap a 26-match, regular-season winning streak by the defending champion and first-place Comets.
Pittston Area then topped Wyoming Area, 163-165, Wednesday.

Senior Robert Savakinas shot a career-best, 5-over-par, 40 in his final home match to support a 37 by Patrick Ruane and lift the Patriots to victory.
Wyoming Area led through the first two foursomes, but Savakinas and Chris Scavo came through in the final foursome. Scavo shot a 43, matching Matt Mesaris to compete Pittston Area’s four-man team score.
“In four years, that’s the lowest he’s ever shot,” Patriots coach Jason Miller said of Savakinas. “That pretty much won the match for us.”
Savakinas put together a steady round of four pars and five bogeys.
All six Wyoming Area players shot between 40 and 45.
Jack Mulhern led the Warriors with 40. Matt Rusinchak and Kristian Pugliese shot 41s and Brady Noone had a 43.
Wyoming Area 162, Crestwood 163
Kristian Pugliese shot a 39 and the rest of the Warriors again shot 45 or better to overcome Crestwood having the two best scores.
“Our guys have all been very consistent,” Wyoming Area coach Gordon Williams said.
Dane Schutter had a 40, Jack Mulhern 41 and Brady Noone 42.
Tommy Biscotti posted a 36 and Derek Johnson a 38 for Crestwood, which will face second-place Dallas in the playoff to determine which team represents the WVC in the District 2 Class 3A boys team championship match.
Wyoming Area 166, Wyoming Valley West 194
Wyoming Area held on to third place in the division going into Monday’s regular-season finale against Hazleton Area by winning Friday’s match at Irem Temple Country Club.
Matt Rusinchak led the Warriors (9-4) with a 2-over, 38.
Dane Schutter had a 42 while Brady Noone and Mario Belza had 43s.
Hazleton Area 179, Pittston Area 188
Gabe Fatula and Jake Babinchak shot 41s at Huntsville Golf Club Friday to lead Hazleton Area to the victory.
Pittston Area finished 9-5 n the division.
Matt Mesaris led the Patriots with a 43. Chris Scavo, Robert Savakinas and Andrew Nocito all shot 48s.
Pittston Area 161, Wilkes-Barre Area 176
Patrick Ruane fired a 1-under, 35 at Wilkes-Barre Golf Club Tuesday to lead Pittston Area’s victory.
Chris Scavo added a 40 and Andrew Nocito matched the best Wolfpack score with a 42.

Dane Schutter and Matt Rusinchak shots 42s while Brady Noone and Kristian Pugliese had 43s for the Warriors in Monday’s win at Fox Hill.
Crestwood 157, Pittston Area 187
Tommy Biscotti matched par at Blue Ridge Trail with a 36 to lead Crestwood Monday.
Patrick Ruane led the Patriots with a 41.

Patrick Ruane shot 38 to lead Pittston Area (7-3) in the Sept. 5 match.
Matt Mesaris added a 39 and Andrew Nocito shot a 40.
