The Pittston Area boys and Wyoming Area girls each landed third seeds for the District 2 soccer playoffs, which open with boys quarterfinals Monday and girls quarterfinals Tuesday.
The Old Forge boys are a top seed and the Wyoming Area boys squeezed into the last spot in their bracket.
Pittston Area is also in the girls district playoffs while Old Forge, a first-year girls program playing an independent schedule, opted out of the postseason.
Boys semifinals and finals are set for Wednesday and Friday, all are the home field of the higher seed. Girls semifinals and finals are Thursday and Saturday.
Class 3A boys
Pittston Area (12-5-1) will host sixth-seeded West Scranton (8-9-1) in one of four Monday quarterfinals.
Wyoming Area (4-13-1) beat out Berwick (4-14) for the last spot in the tournament, but has to travel to face top-seeded North Pocono (15-3) Monday at 6 p.m.
If Pittston Area wins it will face the Valley View-Crestwood winner in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.
Class A boys
Lackawanna League Division 3 champion Old Forge (15-1) will host eighth-seeded MMI Prep (3-15-1) in Monday’s 7 p.m. quarterfinal.
Class 3A girls
Pittston Area (8-9-1) is the seventh seed and opens at second-seeded Dallas (15-3) Monday at 6 p.m.
Class 2A girls
Third-seeded Wyoming Area (12-5-1) opens at home Monday at 4 against sixth-seeded Western Wayne (10-7-1).
A Wyoming Area win would send the Warriors into a semifinal either at Mid Valley or home against Wyoming Seminary.
Wyoming Area boys 2, Tunkhannock 1
Ben Nichol and Liam Burke scored as Wyoming Area reached the playoffs with Monday’s WVC Division 2 win.
The Warriors opened the season going winless in nine games and had been on a five-game losing streak again before winning the last two.
Wyoming Area girls 4, Mountain View 1
Hannah Fairchild’s hat trick lifted Wyoming Area to the non-league win at Mountain View Wednesday.
Fairchild scored the only goal of the first half.
Bella Costa’s goal made it 2-0, which is where it stood until Fairchild scored twice in less than eight minutes.
Emily Kostick had two assists for Wyoming Area, which bult a 26-6 shot advantage.
