Wyoming Area dropped two Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 girls basketball games during the week.

The Lady Warriors fell to 3-5 in the division, fifth out of seven teams, and 5-14 overall to also rank fifth in the seeding race for the District 2 Class 4A playoffs.

Nanticoke 58, Wyoming Area 37

Neveah Baran scored a game-high 15 points and Nanticoke pulled away from a close game in the second half to win Thursday’s game at Wyoming Area.

Kaitlyn Majiros scored eight of her 14 points and Claire Aufierro seven of her nine in the second half for the Trojanettes.

Krea Bonia and Abby Sterba led a balanced Wyoming Area attack with eight points each. Shannon Kearns added seven. Morgan Slusser, who led in rebounds with six, and Addison Gaylord scored six points each.

Slusser hit two 3-pointers to help force a 13-13 tie after one quarter.

Baran made two 3-pointers and added another point during the second quarter when Nanticoke built a 26-20 halftime lead.

Nanticoke opened the second half with a 6-2 run, then closed the third quarter with six straight points for a 42-26 lead. The Trojanettes ran off nine more points in a row for a 53-32 lead with 3:13 left.

Holy Redeemer 57, Wyoming Area 23

Brooke Kroptavich led a balanced Holy Redeemer offense with 10 points Monday as the Lady Royals, who later in the week clinched the division title, overwhelmed visiting Wyoming Area.

Morgan Slusser had eight points and Abby Sterba grabbed six rebounds for Wyoming Area.

Holy Redeemer opened a 17-5 lead by scoring nine straight points in the first quarter.

The Lady Royals used a 21-1 second quarter to take a 38-10 halftime lead.

Wyoming Area pulled within 40-16 early in the second half before Holy Redeemer expanded the lead again.
