Pittston Area shut out Hazleton Area twice while winning three times in four days to complete its second perfect Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 softball season in the last three years.
The Lady Patriots, who went unbeaten through the entire season while winning a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 5A championship in 2022, are 14-0 overall with three non-league road games remaining in the regular season. They went 12-0 in the WVC, winning by a total of 125-7.
Pittston Area has allowed just one run in the last 48 innings.
The Lady Patriots are likely to land the top seed and the only quarterfinal bye in the District 2-4 Class 5A Subregional playoffs.
Pittston Area 10, Hazleton Area 0
Gianna Adams outhit Hazleton Area herself during Thursday’s home victory in five innings to complete divisional play.
Adams struck out 10 and did not walk a batter in her two-hit shutout. She also went 3-for-3 with a walk as the team’s leadoff hitter.
After Adams led off the bottom of the fifth with a triple, her courtesy runner scored on an error to secure the win on the 10-run rule.
Gabby Roman and Tori Stephenson added two hits each. Roman scored twice and drove in a run. Stephenson drove in two runs.
Marina Antal doubled, scored twice and drove in two runs.
Julia Mehal drove in three runs with a hit and a walk.
Lily Hintze also scored twice.
Holy Redeemer 2, Wyoming Area 0
Holy Redeemer scored a pair of unearned runs in the fourth inning to win at home in Wednesday’s WVC Division 2 game.
Alexa Gasek worked the first five innings as the Wyoming Area pitcher and joined Kaia Brown and Maggie Hallman with the team’s only hits.
Pittston Area 14, Crestwood 1
Pittston Area pounded out 14 hits, including six for extra bases, in Tuesday’s road win, which officially clinched the division championship.
Gianna Adams followed up a perfect game Monday by holding Crestwood hitless for six innings before Julia Mehal finished up in the circle.
Adams struck out 13 and walked one. She was also 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Sam Herbert hit a home run and drove in four runs. Gabby Roman singled, doubled and drove in three runs.
Gabby Gorzkowski was 3-for-4 and scored twice. Lily Hintze was 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBI.
Gorzkowski, Abbylynn Colleran, Mehal and Julia Long joined Roman with doubles.
Pittston Area 4, Hazleton Area 0
Gianna Adams fired her third perfect game and fifth no-hitter of the season at Hazleton in Monday’s game.
Adams struck out 12. She also had a two-run double in the fourth inning to complete the scoring.
Tori Stephenson and Adams had two hits each. Stephenson had a triple and double.
Lake-Lehman 7, Wyoming Area 1
Hannah Chippego struck out 11 in a four-hitter to lead the division champions to Monday’s WVC Division 2 victory over visiting Wyoming Area.
Kristen Finarelli hit a two-run homer in the first inning and Haylee Makarewicz added a three-run shot in the fifth.
Allison Layland doubled with two-out to drive in Morgan Slusser, who had led off the fifth with a single, for the only Wyoming Area run.
