Old Forge continued its dominance of Class A competition Thursday when the Lady Devils completed a 15-0 victory over Halifax in just four innings for the District 2-3 Subregional title.

The Lady Devils, who had already won the District 2 title, were leading 7-0 when the game was suspended because of rain with two out in the bottom of the first Tuesday.

When the teams returned to Marywood University Thursday, Old Forge added two more first-inning runs.

The Lady Devils built the lead to 14-0 after two innings and won the game on the 15-run rule by scoring with one out in the bottom of the fourth.

Leadoff hitter Talia Piragas and pitcher Karen Sickle led the victory.

Piragas went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, four runs scored and two RBI.

Sickle tossed a one-hitter with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Old Forge improved to 18-5 on the season. The Lady Devils handed defending state and current District 2 champion Mid Valley its only loss of the season.

Since losing the rematch to Mid Valley 7-6, Old Forge is 10-2 with seven shutouts and has allowed just five runs total.

The Old Forge losses include two to the District 2 Class 4A finalists – champion Valley View and runner-up Tunkhannock.

In the District 2-3 Subregional, the Lady Devils needed only 12 innings to outscore their three opponents 40-0.

Piragas got things started in the title game with a double. Later in the first inning, she singled in the sixth run, then, after the two-day suspension of play, came around to score the eighth run on a wild pitch.

Meghan Marianelli doubled, singled and drove in three runs.

Ariana Davitt had the team’s other double.

Lilianna Lenceski, Lizzy Cummings and Danica Pritchyk each scored twice for Old Forge, which took advantage of 10 walks and four errors.

Old Forge will open the state tournament Monday at District 4 champion Bucktail Area (17-4).
