Haley Pointek and Olivia Capitano had six kills each Thursday to lead the balanced attack that Pittston Area used to outlast host Wyoming Area in five sets in Wyoming Valley Conference girls volleyball.
The Lady Patriots were down a set twice.
Wyoming Area won the first set, but Pittston Area took the second, both by 25-23 scores.
Again, the teams matched victories, this time by 25-20 counts.
Pittston Area then won the deciding set, 15-9.
Capitano also shared the team lead of seven blocks with Paige Bittman and Ava Brady.
Pittston Area had seven players with at least four service points.
Ashlynn Selden had 15, including three aces. Ella Luvender had 12. Sophia Reza had eight.
Emily Sworen had seven points, including a team-high four aces. She also led the team with 11 assists.
Wyoming Area was led by Kenzie Galenty with 27 digs and three aces.
Taylor Gashi had 14 kills, 21 digs and five aces.
Allison Layland had 15 digs and four aces. Gianna Colarusso had 13 digs. Ava Boyle had 13 assists. Kaia Brown had 10 assists and seven digs. Sara Pealer had 10 kills and three aces.
The head-to-head win is one of the biggest reasons Pittston Area leads Wyoming Area in the District 2 Class 3A playoff race.
The Lady Patriots are ninth and the Lady Warriors are 10th, trying to get into the top eight out of 12 teams in order to qualify for the postseason.
Wyoming Area is 3-7 in the WVC and 4-7 overall.

Lauren Donnelly and Brianna Waldron had seven kills each Friday as host Delaware Valley won by set scores of 25-14, 25-16, 25-8.
Pittston Area fell to 3-7 in the WVC and 4-8 overall.

Taylor Gashi had 15 kills, 17 digs and nine service aces to lead the way as Wyoming Area won Tuesday’s non-league home match.
The Lady Warriors took the first two sets 25-16 and 25-22, then lost 25-22 and recovered to win the fourth set 25-15.
Kaia Brown had 10 assists, seven aces and three digs.
Madison Spittel had 12 digs and five aces.
Marissa Giardina and Kenzie Galenty had eight digs while Ella Biscotto had seven and Angelina Littzi added six.
Sara Pealer had eight kills.
Ava Boyle had a team-high 15 assists.
