T.J. DiMattia had a perfect first half through the air on his way to a school record passing performance Friday night when host Old Forge hammered Holy Cross 59-7 in the Eastern Conference Class 2A/A championship game.
The Eastern Conference is a playoff system, conducting postseason games for the best of the teams that do not qualify for district tournaments.
DiMattia was 6-for-6 for 148 yards and four touchdowns in the first half. He finished with six touchdown passes in the game and 21 on the season. The season total matches the most in school history.
Old Forge finished its season 5-6 with its second win over Lackawanna Football Conference Division 3 rival Holy Cross (3-8).
The Blue Devils led 21-0 after one quarter after DiMattia touchdown passes of 3 yards to Ryan Novak and 25 yards to Chris Rasmus, sandwiched around a 52-yard punt return for the first of three Frankie Pero touchdowns.
The lead ballooned to 40-0 at halftime on a 3-yard Ryan Gutowski run and passes of 67 yards to Isiah Rodriguez and 22 yards to Frankie Pero.
Holy Cross got its only score when Josh Lentowski returned the second-half kickoff 90 yards.
DiMattia found Pero with a 17-yard touchdown pass midway through the third quarter and hit Hewitt with a 2-yarder early in the fourth.
Gutowski added a 2-yard run.
