Pittston Area prepared for the postseason with one of its most impressive performances of the season, downing Dallas 10-0 Tuesday in five innings in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 finale.
Samantha Herbert tossed a one-hitter while Lili Hintze led the offense with three hits, including two triples.
Hintze got the Pittston Area offense started with a triple and scored the game’s first run. She then ended the contest with another triple to drive in a run in the fifth.
From her leadoff spot, Hintze had three-hit games in three of the last four outings of the regular season, pushing her batting average to .422. She has scored 28 runs.
The Lady Patriots avenged an earlier loss to the Lady Mountaineers, who finished second in the division with a 9-3 record.
Pittston Area finished 7-5 in the division and closed the regular season with a 10-8 record. It is expected to open the District 2-4 Class 5A Subregional quarterfinals at home against Shikellamy (5-12) Monday.
Playoff pairings become official Sunday afternoon.
Herbert walked three and struck out three. She also supplied two hits and an RBI to the offense.
Mikaila Sarf and Anabele Viglione each doubled and drove in two runs. Jillian Haas also drove in two runs.
Hintze and Marina Antal scored twice.
The Lady Patriots scored five runs in the bottom of the third.
Arionna Banks led off the fifth with a single and scored the game-ending run on Hintze’s triple.
Pittston Area 11, Hazleton Area 4
Lili Hintze went 3-for-4 with a double, scored three times and drove in two runs to lead Pittston Area to Monday’s WVC Division 1 victory over visiting Hazleton Area.
The Lady Patriots pounded out 15 hits, including six doubles.
Mikaila Sarf had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in two runs. Julia Long also doubled twice and scored twice.
Gabby Roman had two hits and three RBI.
Jillian Haas doubled and drove in two runs.
Marina Antal had two hits.
Samantha Herbert went the distance for the win. She struck out four while allowing six hits and two walks.
Valley View 16, Pittston Area 0
Taylor Cawley struck out 10 in a six-inning no-hitter May 10 when Valley View routed Pittston Area in a non-league game.
Kalli Karwowski had a grand slam in the seven-run sixth inning to finish off a day in which she drove in six runs while hitting for the cycle.
