Silvio Giardina led the offense and T.J. Johnson got the win with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief Wednesday when Greater Pittston opened the Wyoming Valley Senior American Legion Baseball League season with an 11-2 romp over the Breaker Boys from Swoyersville.
Giardina went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs.
Johnson worked through four hits and two walks while striking out two. Tom Carlin followed him to the mound with 1 1/3 scoreless and David Fath worked one hitless, scoreless inning to wrap up the win.
Swoyersville scored twice in the top of the first, but did not score again.
Greater Pittston tied the game in the bottom of the inning when and moved ahead in the third when Jake Aftewicz led off with a walk, stole two bases and scored.
Greater Pittston pulled away with two more runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and five in the sixth.
Zach Condeelis doubled, singled, scored and drove in a run.
Dominic Innamorati and Aftewicz each had a hit and scored twice. Aftewicz finished with three stolen bases.
Tyler Ruddy and Zach Schultz each had three hits for the Breaker Boys.
