PECKVILLE — It was difficult for Pittston Area to do much of anything against a Valley View team already with its sights set a week ahead.
It was just that kind of night for the Patriots.
Second-seeded Valley View shut out No. 7 Pittston Area 48-0 on Friday in the District 2 Class 4A first round. The Cougars advance to face Berwick in a rematch of Week 6’s 35-28 thriller.
Valley View had no trouble dismantling the Patriots, allowing just one first down throughout the first half. The Cougars scored on all six of their first half possessions and led 42-0 at halftime.
Pittston Area reached the red zone twice to no avail. After producing just 8 yards through its first three possessions, the Patriots caught a break in the second quarter. Receiver Andrew Krawczyk eluded a cornerback and received a P.J. Pisano pass for 49 yards to the Cougars 4-yard line.
But Valley View’s defense stopped the Patriots in four plays to regain possession.
The Patriots drove into Valley View territory again in the third quarter, but a fumble erased any changes to put points on the scoreboard.
Valley View’s Corey Coulthard scored twice on rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Janaasah Boone threw a pair of touchdowns and finished 9-for-10 for 154 yards.
Pittston Area’s Dylan Lukachko ran 14 times for 53 yards.
The Patriots finished their season 4-7. They knocked off Crestwood late in the schedule before running into two of the state’s top Class 4A teams in Wyoming Area and Valley View in shutout losses.
