Divers got a head start on the rest of the field for the District 2 Swimming Championships.
It turns out the swimmers had to wait to get started.
Kayla Taddei scored points for Wyoming Area in Class 2A girls Feb. 24 when district diving was conducted at the Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center in Wilkes-Barre. She finished sixth with a score of 309.25 in an event that was won by Dallas freshman Jaelyn Shaver’s score of 371.90.
Swimming championships were originally scheduled to be conducted with morning and afternoon sessions Friday and Saturday. After multiple changes as a result of Friday’s storm, the meets had a Saturday/Monday schedule as of the end of the day Friday.
There had been a time when the district was looking at finishing Sunday in order to meet the original Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association deadline for the completion of district meets.
Class 2A, which includes Wyoming Area, was split into afternoon sessions Saturday and Monday. Monday’s action will begin at 1 p.m.
Class 3A, which includes Pittston Area as part of a District 2-4 Subregional – District 4’s Williamsport is also in the field – went to Saturday and Monday nights. The Monday sessions is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
All swimming is being held at the CYC.
