SCRANTON — Old Forge’s Kate O’Hearn and Juliette DeStefano each scored go-ahead runs Tuesday night for Team Purple during an 8-3 victory over Team White in the Field of Dreams softball game for recent Lackawanna League graduates at the University of Scranton’s Magis Field.

O’Hearn, DeStefano and Arianna Davitt were all in the starting lineup for the winning team.

Team Purple included players from Class A state finalist Holy Cross, the team that beat Old Forge in the District 2 championship game. Ava Schmidt from the Lady Crusaders finished up in the circle, retiring all 10 batters she faced with nine strikeouts, including the first eight batters.

The team also included players from Carbondale, Dunmore, Elk Lake, Lackawanna Trail, Lakeland, Mountain View and Riverside.

O’Hearn, who also was part of the Pittston Area swimming team in a cooperative sponsorship of the sport, started in right field and batted second. She walked and scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the first and grounded out in her later two at-bats.

Davitt started in left field and batted fifth. She went 0-for-3.

DeStefano started at first base. She drew a walk to extend the three-run first inning. She reached on an error to lead off the fourth inning and scored the winning run, breaking a 3-3 tie.

Team White also had players from Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state Class 4A champion Valley View, state Class 5A runner-up Abington Heights, Forest City, Mid Valley, North Pocono, Scranton, Scranton Prep, Wallenpaupack, Western Wayne and West Scranton.

Lackawanna County sponsored the game in partnership with the Lackawanna County Convention & Visitors Bureau, with proceeds benefiting the Bill Howerton Strike Out Cancer Initiative.
