Pittston Area began the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 season with a pair of victories to remain unbeaten overall.

The Patriots are 5-0 and have outscored opponents, 44-13, with two shutouts since pulling out a 3-2 victory over Abington Heights in the opener.

Wyoming Area split its first two games in WVC Division 2 and is 1-3 overall.

MMI Prep used three runs in the top of the seventh to pull out the victory at Wyoming Area Thursday.

Andrew Burns singled in two runs to produce the win.

The Preppers overcame being outhit, 13-6, by the Warriors, who got at least one hit from each starter.

Jack Mathis, Billy Noone and Cameron Moser each had two hits for the Warriors.

Mathis had a double, two stolen bases and an RBI. Noone stole three bases, scored twice and drove in two runs. Moser scored one run and drove in another.

Andrew Lucas doubled in two runs.

Nathan Novakowski scored twice and had a hit.

Wyoming Area won 4-0 after one inning and 7-4 after five before MMI Prep scored twice in the sixth and three times in the seventh.

Pittston Area 11, Tunkhannock 0

Elijah Barr struck out four in five-inning, one-hitter as Pittston Area won at Tunkhannock Wednesday.

Barr walked just one in the shutout.

The Patriots scored 10 runs in the top of the first.

Jeremy Cawley, Troy Davis and Silvio Giardina each had a double and two RBI.

Giardina and Jacob Aftewicz each went 2-for-3 as the Patriots compiled 10 hits.

Wyoming Area 10, Hanover Area 6

Winning pitcher Jack Mathis had three hits, including a double and triple, Tuesday as Wyoming Area won at Hanover Area in Tuesday’s WVC Division 2 opener.

Nate Novakowski added a triple and single. Cameron Moser and Casey Noone each had a double and single while Jeremy Layland singled twice.

The Warriors, who had 13 hits, scored in the second, third and fourth innings to open an 8-0 lead. They were able to withstand six runs by the Hawkeyes in the bottom of the fourth.

Mathis got the win in relief with help from Casey Noone finishing up with two scoreless innings in relief.

Pittston Area 14, Berwick 4

Elijah Barr went 4-for-4 and Drew Menendez drove in four runs Monday when the Patriots opened WVC Division 1 play with a six-inning victory over visiting Berwick.

Barr led a 17-hit attack with a double, four runs and two RBI. Menendez was 2-for-3 with a double, one of the team’s three triples and two runs scored.

Pittston Area scored in all but one inning.

The Patriots led 8-1 before Berwick scored three times in the top of the sixth, but still put the game away on the 10-run rule by scoring six times in the bottom of the inning.

Starting pitcher Nick Cerasaro held the Bulldogs to one run on four hits in 4 2/3 innings. He walked three and struck out five.

Leadoff hitter Jeremy Cawley was 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs scored.

Jacob Aftewicz was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. Troy Davis had two hits, scored two runs and drove in one.
